Drummond Designs invests in the future
Montreal, March 14, 2005 - Drummond Designs inc., Quebec's leading developer and marketer of architectural residential home plans and related services in Canada, is pleased to announce it has reached a partnership agreement with three Montreal-area collegiate institutions.
The deal, announced today before some 50 dignitaries representing the housing industry and the business and academic communities, is a three-year association with the Vanier, Vieux Montréal and André-Laurendeau Cegeps. The partnership will enable architectural technology students to benefit from 1,600 hours worth of company internships being offered and the chance to earn Award of Excellence prize money that will be distributed starting this year to those submitting a home architectural project whose technical and artistic attributes convey exceptional know-how.
« Drummond Designs regards this initiative as a showcase for architectural design students, as well as a good way to groom a new generation of craftspeople to join the ranks of a company that has enjoyed an annual sales growth of some 30% since 1998.
We need to invest in the future in order to ensure that we continue to have the technical and artistic depth we require to seize opportunities that are currently developing, both locally and internationally, » stated Yves Carignan, the President and General Manager of Drummond Designs inc. « We are hoping, in this program, to provide students with a work environment that will allow them to familiarize themselves with the industry and enable us, as a company, to identify the top designers who are about to complete their schooling. »
Officials in the three Cegeps communities that are partners in Drummond Designs' initiative expressed enthusiasm for the concept. « The new Ministry of Education program is, in fact, calling for closer ties with private industry so that our students complete their academic training by meeting the required qualifications, » noted George Archer, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Technologies of Vanier College. « The measures being undertaken by Drummond Designs come at an appropriate time, and will no doubt serve as an extra source of motivation for our students. »
Marie Lacoursiere, the Coordinator of Technical Studies at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, remarked: « The initiative by Drummond Designs will allow many students in the architectural technology department to bolster their academic training in absolute terms and will enhance their integration into the labour market. »
Stephane Jubinville, coordinator of the architectural technology department of Cégep André-Laurendeau added that Drummond Designs' partnership is « a recognition of the quality of training imparted by our learning establishments. The openness and flexibility exhibited by the company are in tandem with our teaching objectives, and that should help in easing our students into the workforce. »
